Daddy’s Day

I’m now in my hotel room here and in heaven! I just got a wonderful workout and am ready to tackle my monumental tasks ahead for the next 2 days…

I don’t know how much the kiddos really grasped the idea of Father’s Day gifts, but they sure were proud to present their daddy with the mugs they made him at school. Riley was actually a little obsessed with it throughout the weekend and could hardly wait to give it to him. She wanted to eat the chocolate that was in the cup even more! She held the mug all the way home on Friday and it was all she could do not to eat the chocolate. She was very upset when Ryan started to unwrap a piece. On Saturday she found her way into the dining room and decided it was time to partake. She proudly told me she had eaten the chocolate and when she saw that I wasn’t excited about her proclamation she ran to find daddy. When he figured out what was going on and asked her if she ate his chocolate, she simply put her hands in the air, turned her head sideways and gave him an irresistible grin. You know how the story ends…. She didn’t get in trouble for eating the chocolate.

Today when they gave the mugs to daddy, they both kept calling them “their'” father’s day gifts. They didn't realize it was actually a gift ~from~ them ~to~ dad. Maybe if they called it “Daddy’s Day” rather than “Father’s Day” they would have gotten the concept a little better! All in all it was a great day. We went to church with Gran-daddy and then out to a nice steak and shrimp lunch at Shula’s. It’s by far the nicest restaurant they’ve ever been to and they were very well behaved. Mee maw came over this afternoon after naps to celebrate with Kevin and the kiddos. I was actually there for dinner because my flight was delayed a few hours. I am on a plane now going back to California for another conference. Kevin has been working night and day, so I hope the three of them survive these next few days ok while I’m gone. But – if any daddy can pull it off I know Kevin is the one to do it – and do it well! Happy Father’s Day! I’m grateful to share parenting our wonderful children with you and that they call you daddy!

And to my daddy – Gran-daddy – Happy Father’s Day as well! Hope you had a nice day today – it was great to spend it together.

Potty Talk

I read a lot of very creative blogs about a lot of different things.  One thing I love is when parents write about more than just re-capping their days with their family – which is mainly what I do here.  They talk about “topics” and “issues” rather than the daily happenings.  I keep struggling to come up with creative posts and have been at a loss – thus the decrease in posts lately.  I also think that last year there were so many “firsts” that we wanted to capture that now those same events are a little less eventful.  Those events are probably more fun now, but now quite as monumental.  I’ve also been a lot more hands-on with our activities, so not as much time to take photos.  I guess this is just a natural progression with our ever-changing little ones.  We are still enjoying every single minute with them, but our time together is way different than it was a year ago.  We are spending a lot of time playing with other families and they are truly enjoying time with their friends – as are we!  Last night we had 2 families over for dinner and the adults actually had some time to sit on the porch and talk while the kiddos played inside and watched some tv.  We won’t talk about every single toy we own that they pulled out, but it was definitely nice for all of us to have some time to enjoy our friends.

Memorial Day with the neighbors

Ok – on to my post for today…

Yesterday at church one of the things the speaker said was what you talk about and what your conversations revolve around can tell you a lot about a person.  Kevin and I both laughed because what we spend a lot of our time talking about these days is pee and poop!  I’m not sure what that says about us as a family, but it sure made us giggle.

Celebrating Gran-daddy’s Birthday

Both kiddos are doing great with their potty training, but we are still having numerous accidents.  We had both of them in panties/underwear most of the weekend and for the most part they did great.  There have been a few times of finding a child with wet pants and we weren’t sure where/when it happened.  So that led to a “hunt” for the scene of the crime.  Our dogs have been having accidents as well, so I keep looking out for accidents and surprises from 4 different individuals in our house.  Thus, lots of pee and poop conversations.

There are 2 accidents that happened within just a few minutes of each other that made me wish for a break…  Riley went poop 2 times while we were at the pool on Sunday (for only an hour).  That wouldn’t have been such a big deal, especially since we had brought 2 extra swim diapers.  The problem was that we forgot wipes.  Just imagine trying to take off a wet bathing suit, a wet plastic cover and a wet/poopy swim diaper…and no wipes.  Not. Fun.  After we got home, I threw the kids in the bath tub and got them all clean.  I took Riley out and while I was draining the tub and drying her off I saw Ryan doing his business.  I looked in the tub and next to my clean son was a big deposit!  At least he waited until Riley was out and the tub was drained.  When I asked Ryan why he pooped in the tub and not the potty, he didn’t really have an answer – just kinda grinned at me.  Riley, of course, had a ball talking all about it ~~ “Ryan, don’t poop in the tub – poop goes in the potty” ~or she announced ~ “Daddy, Ryan pooped in the tub and made a mess.”  I’m ready to be past this training stage, but I will continue to be patient – at least for a little bit longer.
